RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
In his role as Director-Major Programs for SMG, Nigel leads large, long-term culture change, growth and transformation programs for clients. These typically involve a combination of one-on-one coaching/mentoring, facilitated small group sessions and team workshops designed to achieve individual and organisational growth.
The programs are usually led by the CEO/MD and involve the top 10-100 executives (and sometimes all employees), usually for a period of between1-2 years.
Nigel has been Project Director for a number of such programs. He has personally coached/mentored many CEOs, MDs, COOs, CFOs, Chairmen and non-executive directors, as well as other senior executives, and designed and facilitated numerous workshops for senior executive teams.
During his early career, he worked in the environment and sustainability sector for the Nature Conservancy Council and the Natural History Museum, before moving into management consulting with KPMG Peat Marwick in their London office.
He migrated to Australia in 1986 with KPMG, became an Australian citizen and continued in the management consulting sector for another 12 years. He was appointed a Partner with Deloitte in 1995 and led the firm’s Australian Healthcare Practice. He also became a member of the Deloitte senior leadership team and the consulting practice’s executive.
In 1998, he took his first senior executive role, as CEO of the St. John of God Healthcare Services Group and spent the next seven years in this and other CEO roles with a change leadership and turnaround focus. He also gained experience as a non-executive director.
Since 2006, Nigel has focused on coaching, mentoring and leadership development, as a Principal with major leadership development consulting firms. His program clients have included large global and Australian listed companies, State government-owned energy businesses and a well-known mutual organisation.
Nigel has a keen interest in helping individuals and organisations to develop, and enjoys the writings of major researchers and authors in the development field (e.g. Ken Wilber, Robert Kegan, James Flaherty, Don Beck and Eckhart Tolle). He is experienced with development tools such as the LSI, TLC, Enneagram and TMP.
