Peter Lamell

Peter Lamell has worked in senior executive roles in the U.K., U.S., Canada, Asia and Australia. He has worked in a range of industry sectors including Oil/Gas, Resources, Power, Telecommunications, Technology, Services, Renewables and NFPs. He has had a particular focus on building and leading strong teams, working successfully across different cultures and commercial environments to drive robust, targeted business growth whilst recognising the requirements of key stakeholders. He has significant expertise in transformation and cultural change, business turnarounds, performance improvement and M&A. He is an innovative and sophisticated negotiator and dealmaker consistently delivering win-win business solutions. He has a strong combination of strategic skills and operational execution.
Peter worked for Shell for over 25 years in senior global and local roles in sales/marketing, strategy, business planning, M&A as well as leadership roles of significant operational units. He was a Board member of Shell Australia and Shell Oceania. In the last few years, he has specialised in being CEO for a number of successful business turnarounds as well as a start-up. In doing this, he has become adept in identifying the key problems within organisations whilst developing practical solutions to deliver significantly increased shareholder value.
He has been a Board member of a range of over 25 companies and organisations developing a deep knowledge and hands-on experience across multiple business sectors. He is currently a member of five Boards in both commercial and NFP sectors.  In his Board work, he has a particular focus on business growth, creating shareholder value, safety, governance and working as a team member emphasising the importance of the relationship between the Board and Executive. He has developed a particular passion for Sustainability and Digital Transformation.

Approach

As an executive leader, Peter always worked closely with the people in his teams in a mentoring relationship, aiming to deliver the best possible outcomes for them as individuals as well as for the team and organisation. He has continued this approach in his career as a mentor. He works closely with his mentees to understand and help them resolve their key issues, define and achieve their goals as well as obtaining the best possible outcomes. He has a particular focus on working with mentees to develop their view of where they would like to be in 5 and 10 years’ time in terms of their business and personal lives.

Qualifications

Peter has a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry, University of Sussex, England, completed the Corporate Finance Program at London Business School in England and has a Senior Executive MBA from Melbourne Business School being awarded the Corr’s Prize for Top Student. Peter has completed a course in Business Sustainability Management at The University of Cambridge (High Distinction).  He is on the Boards of Citywide Service Solutions, Pitt and Sherry, The National Trust Australia (Victoria), National Trust Victoria Foundation and (his passion!) Chairman of Renew Australia (a national social enterprise designed to catalyse community renewal, economic development, via the arts and creative industries). He is a Senior Advisor to Partners in Performance (an international consulting firm) and is a Fellow of the AICD. He is a former President of Lorne Sculpture Biennale which, over a period of six years, he helped build into Victoria’s leading and most highly regarded outdoor sculpture event.

Personal Insights

Peter’s personal interests are Aboriginal Art, Wine, Music, Sustainability, Reading, Travel, History, Skiing, Tennis and the Preservation of Heritage (hence his active involvement with The National Trust).
